With graduation season approaching, employment situation of university graduates affects the people once again. Recently, the Recruitment Hall of Hunan University of Commerce gathered a number of enterprises from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and other places. “There will be a mid-size thematic job faire very two weeks, and there will be one or two companies every day to the university to recruit.” The university held a total of 945 job fairs in the past three year, with employers reaching up to 2809 and jobs up to 61, 447. Supply and demand ratio of graduate jobs reaches to 7.6:1.
Such diverse job choices lie in great emphasis of this university on opening up the job market for a long time. The university summarized job market “8-character formula”, providing a good reference for solving the current problem of university student employment.
Leaders taking the lead to “visit” markets
University leaders guide the formulating of graduate employment market development programs, and use personal resources to introduce employers to come to choose graduates. Party secretary and university president always try and find some time to visit local authorities and well-known enterprises to introduce university and recommend graduates; university leaders of graduate employment led to visit enterprises and talent markets each year; each of other university leaders is responsible for 1-2 secondary colleges, leading the college to visit alumni businesses. Leaders taking the lead to survey the market have played a leading role in opening up and constructing the job market.
The whole staff participating in “exploring” markets
The university implements two-level target management of school and college for building graduate job markets, and clarifies responsibilities of school and college. The university stipulates that Enrolment and Vocation Guidance Office must invite at least 500 employers every year, and secondary colleges must invite at least 400 “effective” employers to come to recruit graduates. Secondary Colleges split up market-building tasks to all the departments (teaching and research offices) and each of the faculty. Colleges formulate relevant incentives for teachers inviting employers to the university and successfully sign with graduates, and a total of more than ten thousand RMB has been awarded over the past years. The university formed such development and construction mechanism of graduate employment market as “clear objectives, proper responsibilities, step-by-step implementation, and full participation”.
Establishing employment bases to “fix” the market
When opening up new markets, the university focuses on converting markets into bases. Through signing long-term cooperation agreements with employers which have large graduate demand and highly fit with some majors, the university stabilizes graduate employment markets and turns them to employment bases. In recent years, the university has successively signed employment base construction agreements with nearly 100 famous enterprises of banking, oil, communications, equipment manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, and retail, etc. These bases come to the university to recruit graduates every year. In the past three years, these bases accepted 80% of the total number of graduates in the school year. Some bases, such as Jiangsu Kunshan employment base, not only provide jobs for graduates, but also provide students with awards and grants; advance choosing and recruiting graduates forward to training periods, meanwhile promote personnel training and employment of the school.
Enhancing cooperation to “borrow” markets
The university takes advantage of government talent agencies to expand graduate job market. It has successively signed cooperation agreements with over 30 governmental agencies of human resources and talent markets; or arranged special buses to organize graduates to participate in local special job fairs; asked government talent agencies to organize employers to come to the university to recruit, providing more employment opportunities and employment options for graduates. In recent years, the university held 20 thematic recruitment activities with governmental support, such as, “public employment services into the campus”, “government, enterprises to the university”, “58 city taking famous enterprises to the university”, etc.
Close contact to “stabilize” markets
The university attaches great importance to communication with employers. Employer databases are established, and return visits, phone calls, messages and e-mails are sent regularly to employers. The university often invites employers to come to participate in “Alumni Entrepreneurs Forum” lectures, sends them graduates guidebook, and selects experts and scholars to be consultants of employers, so as to strengthen ties with the employers. In the past three years, the university organized and dispatched more than 30 teams to over 10 provinces and municipalities, visited more than 1,000 employers and job markets, and made 2,809 return visits of enterprises by telephone, message and e-mail. Through above measures, the university gets a closer relationship with employers and stabilizes graduate employment markets.
Making great efforts to “find” markets
Building employment markets should not only meet needs of ordinary students, but also find suitable employers and positions for students with employment difficulties, especially physically disabled graduates. The university sets up special accounts and recommends them by sending out—providing “love bus” and “inviting in”—holding “employment assistance” job fairs. Over the past three years, the university provided 15 “love buses”, held 12 special job fairs for “employment assistance”, “finding” right jobs for 315 graduates with employment difficulties. In 2014, the university set up a special team to resolve employment problem of CHENG Shuangjia, a disabled graduate. With special funds and multiple enterprise visits, the university found 7 employers for her, and then arranged expedition with special accompany. The move touched employers so much to provide a satisfactory job for her.
Strict selections to “purify” markets
When strengthening exploration of graduate job markets, the university lays great emphasis on inspection and selection. The university established screening systems and standards for employers. Employers who enter the school must provide valid organization code certificate, business license and other qualification documents. There were 37 employers failed to pass the standards. Rigorous review and screening “purify” job markets and ensure employment security and legitimate rights and interests of graduates.
Building a platform to “expand” markets
The university not only focuses on building tangible markets but also expanding invisible markets. The university establishes the graduate job-hunting information website, and arranges staff to collect and upload all kinds of recruitment information. The website also links to governmental, university and social recruitment websites and shares employment information with each other. The university sets up such channels as QQ group, We-chat group, messaging platforms and internet video recruitment room, and holds internet two-way selection recruitment fairs every year. In the past three years, the job-hunting information website provided graduates with 44,800 pieces of job information, and helped over 600 students to reach employment agreements with enterprises.
