8th Forum of Deans (Department Heads) of Art Disciplines in Hunan Universities Held in HUTB

On November 6, 8th Forum of Deans (Department Heads) of Art Disciplines in Hunan Universities themed by "Construction and Development of Art Disciplines during the 14th Five-Year Plan", sponsored by Department of Education of Hunan Province and undertaken by HUTB, was held in the Lecture Hall on 3rdfloor of Innovation Center of HUTB. Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary and CAE Academician, gave a welcome speech through video, and Vice President Guoquan Liu attended. Other online and offline attendees include Song Xiewei, Dean of School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Lin Jiayang, Director of Design Art Research Center of Tongji University, He Renke, Director of Academic Committee of School of Design Art of Hunan University, Pan Changxue, Dean of School of Art and Design of Wuhan University of Technology, Wang Tianming, Director of Packaging Museum of Hunan University of Technology, Gu Xiang, President of Hunan Association of Advertising, Ren Lin, Chairman of David’s Fine Art Education, Heads of the School of Art & Design, Graduate School and School of Music, as well as deans, department heads, academic leaders, professional leaders and backbone teachers of art departments from 28 universities in the province such as Central South University, Hunan University, Hunan Normal University and Xiangtan University. Wu Can, Dean of School of Art & Design, and Wang Tianming, Director of Packaging Museum of Hunan University of Technology, presided over the opening ceremony and forum report meeting respectively.
The leaders and well-known experts and scholars in art disciplines who sent the congratulatory messages to the forum through video include Yan Shengli, Director of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education Division of Department of Education of Hunan Province and Director of Academic Degrees Committee Office of Hunan Provincial People's Government, Lu Xiaobo, Dean of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, Zhu Xunde, Famous Artist, Counselor of Hunan Provincial People’s Government and Chairman of Hunan Artists Association, Xu Fen, Dean of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Jiang Shouxiang, Professor of Institute of Textiles and Clothing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Vice President Liu Guoquan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that this forum provides a good platform for the exchange of education experiences and academic thoughts among art departments of colleges and universities in our province, and promotes the construction and development of art disciplines, so that the fruitful results will be surely achieved. It will also provide high-level intellectual support for the art disciplines of province to better integrate with the strategy of "Three Highlands and Four New Missions".
In this forum, six art leaders and experts in universities were invited to give keynote speeches, share their experiences in discipline construction and personnel training, and carry out academic exchanges and discussions. Song Xiewei, Dean of School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts, emphasized that design education is no longer a simple modeling design education, but a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and borderless educational form around the principle of “Design is absent - Multilateral Response and Educational Change”. Lin Jiayang, Director of Design Art Research Center of Tongji University, shared his thoughts on art design education in the context of new liberal arts, and expounded the importance of "tradition + modernity", "art + science", "art + business" and "knowledge + practice" in art design, called on art teachers to keep pace with the times; He Renke, Director of Academic Committee of School of Design Art of Hunan University, put forward the concepts of "new journey", "new engineering" and "new design" in combination with the rich cases of the construction of industrial design disciplines in Hunan University, and pointed out the challenges and opportunities of industrial design and design education; Pan Changxue, Dean of School of Art and Design of Wuhan University of Technology, systematically and multi-dimensionally described the power of design education and social service in combination with historical changes and the background of the times; Wu Can, Dean of School of Art & Design of HUTB, put forward the educational concept of "integration" from the perspectives of team integration, discipline integration, industry-university-research integration, and shared his thoughts on the construction of design disciplines under the "14th Five-Year Plan"; Ren Lin, Chairman of David’s Fine Art Education, pointed out the pain points and opportunities of art training industry under the background of "double reduction" from the perspective of enterprises, and shared his thoughts on children's art education.
Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary and CAE Academician, and the guests visited the exhibition of works by teachers and students from the School of Art & Design. After the visit, the guests had an in-depth discussion on the construction and development of art disciplines in colleges and universities in the branch venue at creative corridor.
