HUTB Holds Symposium to Celebrate the 37th Teachers' Day

On the afternoon of September 10, the 37th Teachers' Day, HUTB held a symposium in Conference Room 206, Technology Building to extend the most sincere holiday greetings to all teachers who work hard and devote themselves to education. HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician Chen Xiaohong, President Huang Xin, Vice Party Secretary Xiao Xiaoqin, Vice Presidents Liu Guoquan and Gan Dejian, and Member of HUTB Party Committee and Head of the Publicity Department Chen Ming, attended the symposium. Leaders of relevant functional departments, party and government leaders of secondary schools, winners of "Honorary Teacher with 30-year Engagement" and some representatives of teachers and students were present. The symposium was presided over by President Huang Xin.
The symposium began with the singing of the National Anthem. Vice President Liu Guoquan read out the commendation list of "Honorary Teacher with 30-year Engagement". 10 teachers were awarded the title, including Professor Luo Shuanglin from School ofEconomy & Trade, Professor Huang Fuhua from School ofBusiness Administration, Associate Professor Zheng Xiangqian from School of Sports and Health, Associate Professor Deng Jiao from School ofAccounting, Professor Li Guimei from School of Intelligent Engineering and Manufacturing, Professor Pan Jian from School of Foreign Languages, Professor Li Lifang from School of Art & Design, Professor Chen Neiping from School of Science, Professor Xiang Yanzhong from School of Law & Public Administration, and Associate Professor Yu Pengying from School ofMarxism Studies.
Chen Xiaohong delivered a speech entitled "stick to the original aspiration of education and be a 'Master' in the new era". On behalf of HUTB, she extended holiday greetings and heartfelt thanks to all the faculty who work hard in teaching, scientific research, management and service. She pointed out that in the past few years, HUBT teachers and students have been brave enough to take responsibility, devoted themselves, pooled all their resources to complete major missions and heeded voices to solve tough problems, which promoted historic strides in the development of HUTB. Since the first Party Congress of HUTB, they have worked together and taken solid actions to forge ahead towards building a distinctive, innovative first-class university of technology and business.
Chen stressed that a university is governed for teachers and famous for its teachers. For a long time, HUTB has always taken strengthening the teacher workforce as a basic work, vigorously promotes the practice of respecting teachers and valuing education, and creates a good environment for teachers to concentrate on education. Great learning makes a teacher; moral integrity makes a model. Teachers are engaged in the glorious profession of spreading knowledge, ideals and truth. They undertake the lofty mission of cultivating talent for the Party and the State, and fulfill the sacred duty of shaping thesoul, life and people. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized at the National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities that a teacher can't be merely a teacher who imparts book knowledge, but also a "master" who shapes students' character, conduct and taste.
Chen Xiaohong hoped that the faculty can be "masters" in the new era, who have ideals and convictions, moral sentiments, solid knowledge, and benevolent heart, and should awaken a group of souls with a beam of light. She raised a few hopes. First, we need to have strong beliefs, be ambitious, always stand firmly with the Party and the people, and figure out the fundamental question of "who and how to train, and to what end". Second, we should take the lead in moral education, combine teaching and self-cultivation (ethics), and strive to be a model of virtue and morality. We should consciously safeguard our spiritual home and hold the bottom line of personality. Third, we should take solid actions, keep pace with the times, enrich and improve ourselves with new knowledge, new ideas and new technologies, guard ourselves against impetuosity, enhance our knowledge, broaden our horizons, and strive to scale the heights of knowledge. Fourth, we should innovate and forge ahead with a pioneering spirit, take the initiative to undertake the mission of sci-tech innovation, focus on the urgent needs of the country and "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" requirement of Hunan province, dare to explore and create in major strategic areas, key core areas, emerging frontier areas, and application foundation area. Fifth, we should be willing to serve others and make contributions, give priority to humanity and humanistic care, and cultivate more people with love and morality. Chen asked relevant departments of HUTB to do practical work and enthusiastically care for the teachers, so that they may gain a sense of happiness, a sense of achievement and a sense of honor in their posts, and be envied by others.

Professor Pan Jian and Professor Xiang Yanzhong gave a speech on behalf of the winners of "Honorary Teacher with 30-year Engagement". They said that they are very happy and proud to be awarded the honor, and would continue to devote themselves to educating people, making more contributions to realizing the goal of "Three Admissions, Three Highlands" and building HUTB into a distinctive, innovative first-class university of technology and business. Dr. Su Changqing from School of Resources and Environment and Dr. Fang Xiaoping from School of Science spoke on behalf of young teachers. They said that honorary teachers with 30-year engagement are models for all young teachers. They will conscientiously learn from the valuable experience and dedication of predecessors, make progress together with better and better HUTB, and become excellent educators.
At last, the symposium ended successfully in the chorus of Anthem of Hunan University of Technology and Business.
