HUTB Holds Symposium for Young Teachers

On the afternoon of September 14, the symposium for young teachers was held in the lecture hall of Lingnan Innovation Center. HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician Chen Xiaohong, Vice Party Secretary Xiao Xiaoqin, and Vice Presidents Liu Guoquan, Zhang Ling and Yi Mianyang attended. Leaders of relevant functional departments and more than 160 young teachers recruited in the past four years were present. The symposium was presided over by Vice President Liu Guoquan.
At the symposium, Yang Yi from Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Wu Weiping from School of Economy & Trade, Luo Lanlan from School ofFinance, Yan Caiyu from School ofAccounting, Zhang Xinyu from School of Computer Science & Information Engineering, Tan Mei from School of Literature & Journalism, Lei Quan from School of Art & Design, and Zheng Yizhong from School of Sports and Health, totaling 8 representatives of young teachers, made speeches. They shared their own perception of work, study and life since recruitment, expressed gratitude to HUTB for caring about the growth and development of young teachers and creating a good working environment for them, introduced the preliminary ideas on teaching and scientific research work in future and integration into the interdisciplinary development of HUTB, and hoped to grow together with HUTB to make due contributions to its development.
Other young teachers at the meeting offered lots of advice and suggestions on the development of HUTB.
Chen Xiaohong pointed out in her speech that the top priority of HUTB Party committee is to train young teachers and build a talent team. Young teachers recruited in recent four years have witnessed the magnificent transformation of HUTB in the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. They will have a better future and reap more fruitful results together with HUTB.
Chen Xiaohong put forward four requirements on young teachers in HUTB. First, they should have loft aspiration, improve moral virtue, become useful persons and shoulder their responsibilities; they should bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping's requirement that "scientific and technological development must target the global sci-tech frontiers, serve the main economic battlefields, strive to fulfill the significant needs of the country and benefit people's lives and health", and take it as the starting point of cultivating people. Second, they should learn how to be an upright person before their knowledge learning; they should love the country and the people, take the initiative to serve the national development strategies, and closely align their academic and personal ideals with the development needs of the country; learning should be problem-oriented and demand-driven; they should go deep into the government and enterprises to identify and solve problems in practice. Third, they should grasp the new trends in academic development; they should actively adapt to new technologies, new forms, new models and new industries, cultivate keen academic insight and foresight, and promote interdisciplinary development. Fourth, they should build and integrate into a good team, a good platform; only by following the team can they avoid detours and go further. She hoped that young teachers strive to be good teachers with ideals and convictions, moral sentiments, solid knowledge, and benevolent heart. They could actively carry out sports and devote themselves to fostering virtue, scientific research and other educational undertakings with full enthusiasm and healthy mental attitude, so as to make greater contributions to realizing the "Three Admissions and Three Highlands" goal determined at the first Party congress of HUTB and building an innovative country and strong country in education.
