HUTB Holds 2021 Training Class for New Teachers

On the morning of July 16, the 2021 Training Class for New Teachers (first phase) was held in Yingcai Lecture Hall, Library of HUTB. Vice President Liu Guoquan attended and chaired the seminar. The training class invited 3 education and teaching experts of Hunan province, namely, Professor Song Defa of Xiangtan University, Professor Yang Pingzhan of Hunan Normal University, and Professor Tang Qiuping of the 3rdXiangya Hospital of Central South University, to give lectures. Leaders and staff of the Party Committee Teacher Affairs Department and all the new teachers participated in the training class.
At the opening ceremony, Vice President Liu Guoquan delivered a mobilization speech. He said that the objective of the training class is to strengthen the construction of teaching style, and clarify teachers’ responsibility and mission to complete the fundamental task of fostering morality; encourage teachers to accept cutting-edge knowledge and skills, perfect knowledge structure, and improve all-round quality and development ability; foster firm ideal and belief, moral sentiment, solid knowledge and benevolence among teachers. He put forward three requirements for all the new teachers to earnestly complete the task of the training class: first, new teachers should understand study, take the study seriously, and earnestly participate in the study; second, new teachers should think deep, and combine study with thinking; third, new teachers should apply what they learned in teaching practice. He expressed the hope that the training class will help the new teachers to enhance their capabilities, accumulate theoretical knowledge, and perfect practical skills.
Professor Song Defa delivered a speech titled “Comprehensive Quality of College Teachers”. From ten aspects, i.e. professional quality, image, language, teaching, imagination, sense of humor, special talent, romantic temperament, gentle character and pedagogical literacy, he vividly demonstrated how to become a popular teacher through a large number of vivid cases, humorous language, profound contents, and incisive and original analysis. He expressed the hope that new teachers will take education and teaching seriously, learn to turn education and teaching into art, and gain skilled craftsmanship.
Professor Yang Pingzhan delivered a speech titled “Concept and Practice of University Information Teaching in New Technology Environment”. He elaborated on four aspects, that is “empowering education with technology”, “education information 2.0 and smart education”, “career analysis of teachers for information era”, and “course information construction and information teaching”. He stressed that the responsibility of teachers for information era is to undertake four “new capital constructions” in talent training, i.e. discipline quality (basic unit of talent training), course quality (core element of talent training), textbook quality (main script of talent training), and technological level (key breakthrough in learning revolution).
In her speech titled “Mental Health of Teachers”, Professor Tang Qiuping elaborated on two aspects, that is the basic connotation of mental health and the self-maintenance of mental health. She said that mentally healthy teachers should have correct cognition, good emotion, strong willpower, and healthy personality. She introduced the abnormal characteristics of some mental diseases, and analyzed the root causes and treatment methods. She expressed the hope that new teachers would proactively establish their own emotion management system, and maintain a healthy mentality.
On the morning of July 16 and the afternoon of July 17, all the new teachers watched the live streaming of the second training session of "Lectures for Cadres", and listened to the inspiring lectures delivered by Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary and Academician, Professor Luo Pinghan, Director of the Department for CPC History Teaching and Research of the Party School of the Central Committee of CPC (National Academy of Governance), Researcher Huang Qunhui, Director of the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Pan Biling, member of the standing committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Deputy Director (bureau-director level) of the Ecology and Environment Department of Hunan in Yingcai Lecture Hall.
