HUTB Holds First Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Competition

On May 5, HUTB held the final contest of the first ideological and political course teaching competition at F201 Lecture Hall of Lezhi Building, for the purposes of implementing the principle of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on education, promoting the construction of ideological and political courses, strengthening the role of ideological and political theory teaching in educating people, and motivating more teachers to actively incorporate ideological and political theory teaching in all courses. The inauguration ceremony of the final contest was attended by Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary of HUTB and CAE Academician, Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB, and Chen Ming, Member of the Party Committee of HUTB and Director of the Publicity Department. The event was attended by heads of the Personnel Division, the Academic Affairs Division and the Labour Union of the university, review experts from Central South University, Hunan Academy of Education Sciences, Hunan Normal University, Hunan University, Hunan First Normal University and HUTB, 30 teachers (teacher’s teams) from secondary schools, and more than 200 teacher and student representatives. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Zhang Ling.



Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary of HUTB and CAE Academician, addressed the ceremony. She pointed out that in recent years, the university has conducted multiple discussions on ideological and political theory teaching in all courses, and understands that ideological and political theory teaching in all courses is the fundamental requirement of strengthening morality and cultivating talents, that it is one of the objective requirements of cultivating a new generation with all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding and a hard-working spirit, and that it is one of the important measures to eliminate “water courses” and establish “golden courses”; the university incorporates the element of ideological and political theory teaching in all courses into the revised talent training plan, and constructs a course system featuring mutual penetration of ideological and political education and specialized education; front-line teachers agree on the need to educate people while teaching, actively tap into the ideological and political element of courses, and achieve the organic integration of knowledge transfer and value communication; the university takes the actual effect of educating people as one of the important criteria for course evaluation, and guide all the teachers to consciously integrate ideological and political education into various courses. Through multi-department collaboration, the university has made initial achievements in the construction of ideological and political theory teaching in all courses, with the emergency of a batch of mined actors in ideological and political theory teaching in all courses.

 


Secretary Chen Xiaohong stressed that ideological and political teaching in all courses is not only one of the political requirements put forward by the Party for all the teachers in the new era, but also one of the important measures in implementing the principles of the national conference on education and the national undergraudate education conference in the new era. The ongoing Party history learning and education further enriches the content of ideological and political theory teaching in all courses. She called on various units to seize the opportunity of the competition, actively follow the call of the CPC Central Committee, vigorously promote the classroom teaching reform with ideological and political teaching in all courses as its goal, communicate the great knowledge of the Party’s history to young college students, and guide them to stay true to founding mission and shoulder the responsibility of the era.

 

Secretary Chen Xiaohong put forward three requirements for university teachers to bear the mission of building soul, building life and building new generation: first, all the teachers should stick to “four unifications”, and have ideal and belief, moral sentiment, solid knowledge and benevolence; educators should first receive education, adhere to the principle “Course is paramount, and the bounden duty of teachers is to teach and educate people”, establish a teacher-student relationship in which teacher and student are each other’s friend, and guide and educate students to consciously study hard; second, all the teachers shall follow the guidance of Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, rely on Chinese practice, learn from the latest theoretical achievements of Chinese Marxism, regard political identity, national consciousness, cultural confidence and citizen’s personality as key content, develop a comprehensive and multi-level educational teaching content system for ideological and theoretical theory teaching in all courses, tap into and refine the element of moral education in various courses, and ensure that the purpose of course is to educate people; third, all the teachers should ensure that specialized knowledge transfer and ideological and political education proceed towards the same direction in a subtle manner, formulate different course construction value standards, teaching norms and evaluation standards for different disciplines, specialized areas and courses on the basis of strengthening political direction and ideological guidance and highlighting the role of courses in educating people, and promote the integration of ideological and political education in various courses.

 

After the end of the inauguration ceremony, the meeting entered the competition stage. Competitions in liberal arts, science and engineering, and foreign languages were held in E201, F202 and E203 classrooms of Lezhi Building respectively. E202, F203 and E203 classrooms were used for observation. Before the final competition, 30 teachers (teacher’s teams) actively made preparations. Observers cheered for the contestants, creating a warm atmosphere on the site. During the competition, each contestant used teaching presentation to give a 15-minute demonstration course. The teachers exhibited their strengths, which demonstrates the mental attitude of pursuing continued improvement and excellence. The demonstration courses were scored in strict accordance with evaluation criteria and in light of the teaching materials of the contestants. Observers sitting in the competition and observation classrooms earnestly learned from the contestants’ excellent teaching skills and methods.

 

It is learned that the university teaching steering committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the contestants’ teaching notes, presentations and on-site demonstration courses, and on this basis, select winners, who will, on behalf of the university, join the 2021 Hunan provincial college ideological and political teaching competition.
