HUTB Holds Symposium on Planning During 14th Five-Year Plan Period

On the afternoon of May 5, HUTB held a symposium on the planning and development of specialized areas during the 14thFive-Year Plan period at Conference Room 206 in the Technology Building. The symposium was attended by Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary of HUTB and CAE Academician, Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB, and Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB. Deans of secondary schools and deputy deans in charge of teaching, and heads of relevant functional departments participated in the symposium.

At the symposium, participants exchanged views and had an in-depth discussion on the list of secondary schools to be adjusted and interdisciplinary specialized areas to be added during the 14thFive-Year Plan period. They drew up a blueprint for the future development of the university based on the valuable opinions and suggestions proposed by academicians and experts at the development and planning consulting conference for education course during the 14thFive-Year Plan period, and the current situation of development of university, schools, specialized areas and industries.
Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary of HUTB and CAE Academician, pointed out that the primary purpose of the symposium is to plan a good start of the setup of schools and specialized areas during the 14thFive-Year Plan period, further optimize the structure of disciplines and specialized areas, bring about new life in traditional specialized areas of study, transform new specialized areas into important growth poles, timely merge or revoke specialized areas that do not conform to the socio-economic development needs of the state, and lay a solid foundation for the university to achieve new leapfrog development. She requested the university to display its own distinct advantages, highlight interdisciplinary integration featuring “new engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal art courses” and with science as its foundation, follow the development trend of frontier areas of science and technology, take such emerging information technologies as big data, AI and block chain as important technological support, and promote the smart and digital transformation and upgrade of other specialized areas. She emphasized that various secondary schools should further strengthen the construction of disciplines and specialized areas, nurture a batch of new state-level and province-level first class specialized areas, strengthen the construction of state-level and province-level first class specialized areas that the university has been authorized to establish, following the planning of specialized areas during the 14thFive-Year Plan period, build new specialized areas, new platforms, and new teams as early as possible, accelerate progress, integration and innovation-driven development, and be the first in seizing development opportunities in a new round of competition.
