HUTB Undertakes Annual Academic Meeting 2020 of Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education

From November 21 to 22, the Annual Academic Meeting 2020 of Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, hosted by Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education and undertaken by HUTB, was smoothly held at Meyes International Hotel in Changsha. The theme of this year’s event is “Studying and Implementing the Spirit of the National Conference on Graduate Education and Comprehensively Promoting the High-Quality Development of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education”. Yan Shengli, Director of the General Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Jiang Jianhui, President of Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education and Vice President of Hunan University, and HUTB Vice President Zeng Fuqiu attended the event. Professor Wang Zhanjun, Vice President of Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, and Zhou Wenhui, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief and President of Academic Degrees & Graduate Education, were invited as special guests to deliver a speech at the meeting. More than 200 distinguished guests and representatives from 31 colleges and universities in Hunan attended the event, which means the number of attendance is more than that of previous events.
At the opening ceremony, Zeng Fuqiu delivered a welcome speech on behalf of HUTB. He briefed the participants on the achievements made by HUTB in the fields of scientific research, disciplinary construction, talent development and academic degrees and graduate education in recent years. He also pointed out that as the first annual meeting of Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education following the National Conference on Graduate Education, this year’s event will be of significance in better implementing the spirit of the National Conference on Graduate Education and ensuring the better development of the provincial cause of academic degrees and graduate education. Next, Jiang Jianhui delivered an opening speech on behalf of Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education. He pointed out that graduate educators should take greater responsibility, keep in mind the mission of education, focus on the quality of talent development, follow the national development strategy, and join hands in promoting the high-quality development of academic degrees and graduate education in Hunan Province.
Director Yan Shengli announced the list of advanced units and individuals in academic degrees and graduate education management for 2019 and excellent papers of the Annual Academic Meeting for 2020. Leaders attending the event presented award to advanced units and individuals and authors of excellent papers. A total of 8 colleges and universities were designated as advanced units, 73 teachers from 23 colleges and universities were designated as advanced individuals, and 19 papers from 11 colleges and universities were designated as excellent papers. Among them, 3 teachers from HUTB were designated as advanced individuals, and 2 papers won the award of excellent paper.
At the stage of invited lecture, Wang Zhanjun delivered a speech titled “Making China A Major Country of Graduate Education”, and Zhou Wenhui delivered a speech titled “Research Frontier of Graduate Education and Paper Writing”. Wang reviewed the past achievements in graduate education, analyzed the status quo of graduate education, and charted the course for graduate education. He also reflected on the nearly 70-year history of graduate education, interpreted the important instructions made by President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, the important speech delivered by Vice Premier Sun Chunlan and Minister Chen Baosheng’s work requirements, and expressed high expectations for the new journey of graduate education going forward. Zhou conducted an in-depth analysis and interpretation in the fields of status quo, frontier research and paper writing. He pointed out that graduate education, as an open discipline and research area, requires interdisciplinary research and cross-department collaboration, and called on all parties concerned to join the academic community of graduate education research towards making China a major country of graduate education.
At the stage of keynote speech, Zhan Lihua, Director of the Academic Degrees Management Office of Central South University (CSU), delivered a speech titled “Comprehensively Implementing the Spirit of the National Conference on Graduate Education and Building CSU into A “54321” Graduate Education System”; Guan Deqing, Dean of the Graduate School of Changsha University of Science and Technology, delivered a speech titled “Implementing the Fundamental Task of Morality and Education and Promoting the High-quality Development of Graduate Education”; and Lu Shan, Deputy Dean of the School of Economy & Trade of HUTB, delivered a speech titled “Consolidating Foundation, Pursuing Innovation and Enhancing the Level of Graduate Education in Applied Economics”.
At the closing ceremony, Yan Shengli delivered a summary speech featuring “one significance, two appreciations and three thoughts”. He commended the significance of this year’s annual academic meeting amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the tight agenda and rich content of the event. He said that the in-depth discussion among experts and representatives attending the event encouraged all parties related to graduate education to explore new thoughts on school governance. He expressed the hope that various colleges and universities would use Hunan Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education as a platform to enhance thinking and exchanges for common progress.
