HUTB Holds 2020 Teachers’ Classroom Teaching Competition & Information-based Teaching Competition

On July 7, the Academic Affairs Division and the Labor Union jointly organized the finals of the 2020 HUTB Teachers’ Classroom Teaching Competition and Information-based Teaching Competition in Lezhi Building, and livestreamed them simultaneously on the Chaoxing platform. Among the teachers from all teaching departments, 24 enteredinto the final of the Classroom Teaching Competition, and 11 into the final of the Information-based Teaching Competition; in addition, 14 internal and external experts were invited to serve as professional judges.

In the Classroom Teaching Competition, the contestants who had intently studied teaching materials, carefully designed teaching plans, and actively innovated classroom teaching models fully demonstrated their solid disciplinary knowledge, excellent teaching skills and proficient classroom control abilities. While focusing on theoretical introduction, these contestants also explained the cutting-edge knowledge, deeply integrated the curriculum ideological and political education in the teaching contents and methods, and vividly displayed HUTB teachers’ high-level classroom teaching skills. Mr. Zhan Zhifang explained the theories and cases in the “Special Lectures on Marketing Innovation” in a simple and profound way, attracting listeners’ interest in the secret of marketing; Mr. Li Xiaobo fully showed the interestingness and scientificity of University Physicsthrough three experiments; Mr. Chen Xingjuan vividly analyzed the classic cases in the Promotion Strategyand evaluated various promotion strategies and their effects, so that listeners could understood the subtleties of promotion.

In the Information-based Teaching Competition, the contestants took the initiative in applying Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and other new IT technologies to teaching activities. By doing so, these contestants continuously improved the curriculum education capacity and boosted the modernization of higher education. They demonstrated their teaching from the characteristics of teaching methods, course features, and knowledge point explanation. The expert judges evaluated the contestants’ overall performance mainly from teaching design, information application, teaching process and effects as well as other aspects. Especially, in assessing teaching effects, the judges emphasized the student-centered teaching design and model, the teaching support from information-based teaching resources and methods, the teaching interaction between teachers and students, and data analysis.

After the competition, Professor Yang Pingzhan from Hunan Normal University, Executive Director of the Chinese Association for Educational Technology, Deputy Chairman of the Educational Technology Committee of the Hunan Association of Higher Education, made wonderful comments on the contestants and put forward targeted opinions and suggestions. The contestants all expressed that they benefit a lot from such advices.

This competition has helped improve HUTB faculty’s teaching quality and cultivate a good teaching culture and academic atmosphere. This event has played an active role in continuously improving HUTB’s talent training quality, implementing the undergraduate education-oriented principle, and promoting the first-class undergraduate education.
