2020-06-24
On the morning of June 22, HUTB held the 2020 graduation ceremony and degree-granting ceremony, with some graduate representatives present at the site. All the graduates, their parents, teachers, and alumni watched the live-streamedgrand and special graduation ceremony through HUTB’s Douyin official account. It marks that over 5,000 graduates of 2020 officially completed their studies in HUTB, obtained bachelor degrees, college diplomas or master degrees, and embarked on a brand new life journey with their deepnostalgia for the alma mater and the ardent blessings from teachers.

Compared with previous graduation seasons, this year's looks particularly special. Due to the epidemic impact, graduates could not experience the strong graduation season atmosphere as was in previous years. They could not hold graduation parties, take group photos, or dine together, nor could they talk with roommates about the future before going to bed and say farewell to each other. Just because of that, under the premise of ensuring teachers and students’ health and life safety, HUTB spared no efforts to well complete the graduation work, thus sincerely creating a different graduation season atmosphere for graduates. The University provided considerate services for graduates’ smooth returning, graduation and employment, touching them with deep love.
HUTB guaranteed graduates’ study and life. Since May 23, the University has seen graduates returning to school in batches for completion of studies, entrance examinations for postgraduate and civil servant programs, and job applications. In response toCOVID-19, the University strictly followed the national, provincial, and municipal arrangements for epidemic prevention and control, and adhered to the equal emphasis on epidemic containment and school opening. With closed-off campus management, the University provided services regarding epidemic prevention and control, academic and employment guidance, canteen dining, accommodation, and mental health education for returning graduates. Through these efforts, HUTB ensured the returning graduates’ study, life, employment, safety and other aspects and helped graduates concentrate on all pre-graduation tasks without being affected by the epidemic. Meanwhile, the University also helped the graduates who had not returned to the campus with graduation, employment, home-school communication, ideological guidance, psychological care, package picking-up and delivery, etc. The University also organized special staff to hang out their quilts for drying and clean dormitories. These efforts helped relieve students' worries.
HUTB provided platforms for graduates’ employment development. On May 9, the University launched the “100-Day Employment Assurance Action” for the 2020 graduates, in a bid to ensure “six priorities” and stability in six areas as required by the central government. As of June 19, the University has organized 25 Career Talk, 17 job fairs, 14 mutual selections, 4 career guidance lectures and seminars for Hubei graduates “online and offline”.Inthese activities, HUTB has invited a large number of high-quality employers such as SANY, BBK, TRS, Guizhou Bailing, and provincial “Little Giant” enterprises featuring speciality, professionalism, uniqueness, and novelty to recruit the graduates. These enterprises provided more than 90,000 jobs. All secondary schools have worked with practical deeds, like providing employment guidance, opening up employment channels, and mobilizing alumni, to well serve graduates, especially those from Hubei and those from poor families. The whole university went all out to win this critical battle of ensuring graduates’ employment. Eventually, the employment rate of graduates has risen against the trend and ranked first in Hunan province, and many graduates have found satisfactory jobs. While ensuring the employment, HUTB also earnestly completed the formalities such as issuing graduation and degree certificates, handling registration certificates, and transferring student profiles. All these have helped graduates set out for a new journey without worries.
HUTB held meaningful graduation-themed cultural activities. HUTB did not held offline series activities themed with the graduation season this year. Nevertheless, the University and its secondary schools actively changed their minds. By utilizing the Internet and information technologies, the University organized a series of online graduation-themed activities in various forms and with rich contents. These activities were warmly received by the graduates. The new media of the University and its secondary schools published a series of articles on the graduation-themed songs, photos, love letters, and blessings, and on dormitories of graduates with excellent academic performance, model graduates in employment applications. These media launched a series of online thematic activities such as graduation work exhibitions and presentation of graduation group photos and souvenirs. Basing on their practical conditions, all secondary schools also organized online graduation evening parties and symposiums to meet the graduates’ celebration needs. In HUTB’s Talent Plaza stood a graduation wall made up of the 2020 graduates’ photos where the young faces beamed with longing for the future and carried the expectations from the alma mater. They are about to fly high and to pursue their new life dreams.
As the time to leave school is approaching, the 2020 graduates expressed their gratitude to their alma mater and teachers, classmates, roommates, and dorm supervisors through telephone, letters, text messages, WeChat, QQ, and other means. HUTB teachers also sent the best wishes to the 2020 graduates. Over 5,000 outstanding HUTB students will keep in mind the motto of “Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation” and overcome the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. They will leave the campus, enter the society, and bravely move ahead for a better tomorrow! (Reported by Zhang Gaoyang)
