Be an Ideological Doer -- Tang Yayang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, Taught the First Lesson of the University to the 2019-class Freshmen

During Sep. 9-18, Tang Yayang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, taught the first lesson entitled "Be an IdeologicalDoer" to 2019-class undergraduates, postgraduates and freshmen of Sino-foreign cooperative education project successively. The lecture centered on three questions: "where do I come from?", "where am I?" and "what should I do?".
Secretary Tang, on behalf of all teachers and students, extended warm welcome to 2019-class freshmen, and briefly introduced the development history of Hunan University of Technology and Business to students around 13 key nodes, such as founding and enrollment, change, merger of two universities, undergraduate teaching evaluation, establishment of Beijin College, establishment of School of International Business, opening of continuing education, construction of Lingnan campus, success of applying for master degree, the Fourth Congress of Party Representatives, promotion of key universities, approval and establishment of doctoral degree awarding unit and renaming of university, etc. He described the foundation of the construction and development of the university around the talent cultivation, discipline construction, scientific research, social service and cultural innovation, and explained the school motto of "Sincerity, Faith, Practice and Innovation" and the school spirit of "Virtue, Erudition, Practice and Self-improvement" of our university.
During the lecture, Secretary Tang also gave some gifts prepared in advance for the freshmen who had their birthday, and led them to sing happy birthday songs.
On how to spend a wonderful university, he gave ten sentences to students: the first one is patriotism, which is the deepest and most lasting emotion in the world, and is the source of one's virtue and the foundation of one's achievements. The second one is that there is sunshine in the heart and strength under the foot. Only in order to adhere to the ideal and not slack off, can we create a life worthy of the times. The third one is that the button of life should be fastened at the beginning. The fourth one is that all young people are a piece of jade. We should often carve ourselves with truth, goodness and beauty, constantly cultivate noble conduct and simple emotions, and strive to become a worthy man. The fifth one is that we know everything when things are going well, and we know nothing when suffer from setbacks. The sixth one is that young people need to learn knowledge like sponge absorbs water in the accumulation stage of life. The seventh one is that we should strive for the realization of a common dream, so that the strength to realize the dream is extremely strong. The eighth one is that happiness comes from struggle. Youth is used to struggle. In the future, youth is used for memory. The ninth one is that we should keep a good health while studying well. The tenth one is that each undertaking, regardless of scale, is established on a down-to-earth basis, bit by bit.
Secretary Tang encouraged 2019-class freshmen: "we stand on the new starting line of life. In order to achieve our own ideals and goals, we can choose to be ordinary on the life path in the future, but not mediocre. We should always bear in mind that luck is only a moment, but mentality determines destiny. Our life will take a big step ahead of others if we take a small step ahead of others at the beginning. I sincerely hope that you can be healthy, happy, talented, emotional, temperament and dreamy."
