[Lushan Lecture Hall]: Prof. Zheng Shaohui of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was Invited to Give Lecture at the University

On the afternoon of Jun. 14, Prof. Zheng Shaohui of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was invited to give a lecture at the Lushan Lecture Hall as the 74th speakers on the theme of "Management of Supply Risks through Source Diversification and Dynamic Pricing". The lecture was presided over by President Chen Xiaohong(academician), and the attendees were the teachers and students of the university, experts and scholars outside the university.
Zheng Shaohui is the Professor and Head of Department of Business Statistics and Operation of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His articles have been published in many top journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, IIE Transactions, Journal of Applied Probability, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Queueing Systems, and a monograph has been published in Springer-Verlag. Prof Zheng is the deputy editor of Operations Research, the guest editor of Annals of Operations Research and the deputy editor of Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research. Since 2006, he has been serving as the commentator of "MSOM Student Paper Competition" at the MSOM/INFORMS Association.
In the lecture, Prof. Zheng described the huge losses and risks that may be caused upon sudden interruption of the supply chain through several classic cases, and then explained how to realize effective control of the supply chain risks from the two aspects of diversified procurement and dynamic pricing models. The lecture was wonderful and vivid, simple but profound. During the interactive session, Prof. Zheng Shaohui patiently answered the questions of teachers and students, and communicated and discussed with teachers and students the possible impact of product quality difference of different reliable manufactures on the results, model structure and questions in the interpretation of results.
This lecture is plentiful, which makes the present teachers and students have a more profound understanding of the supply chain, and also broadens the thinking of conducting academic research between teachers and students in the university, and has a good guiding significance to create a strong academic environment in the university.
