The ceremony was presided over by Ciaran O'Leary. Dr. Liu Yupeng, the contact person of the seminar, assistant dean of the University of Computer Science at DIT, attended it.
At 6:30 pm of local time, the principal of DIT Brian. Norton held a dinner party to welcome the seminar personnel, Vice President Michael Devereux and his entourage (7 people) attended the party. Before the party started, principal Brian Norton made a speech to introduce DIT, warmly welcomed the seminar personnel, and wished great success to this project. During the dinner, the two parties communicated with each other affectionately, and exchanged gifts, which laid a solid foundation for the deeper and more friendly cooperation in future. Wu Xiaochuang, the head of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland attended the dinner party.
After the opening ceremony, the seminar started its first lesson: the development and trend of education, lectured by Prof. Ciaran O'Leary. He explained the "Student-centered Theory" and "Teacher-centered Theory" in teaching. Starting from two aspects, i.e. "whether teaching and learning are the same thing" and "whether students can learn without teaching", he conducted a classroom discussion with students divided into several groups. The 20 students of the seminar thought actively about the questions raised by the teacher, and the classroom atmosphere was very active, which was praised by the teacher.
After class, the seminar members visited the campus of DIT, classrooms and workshops of Art Institute, as well as the "Hothouse" (incubator base of enterprise project). The ancient architecture on campus, the studios with their unique characteristics in Art Institute, and the busy technical staff in the "Hothouse" revealed a strong technical and cultural flavor, conveying the unique and impressive DIT style.
During the two-week study, the seminar will also study the curriculums including "internationalized higher education", "internationalized curriculum setting", "the integration of universities and industries" "teaching management and evaluation", etc, and attend lectures given by elites from communities of finance, science and technology, and culture. In addition, the seminar will also attend professional-related classes of different institutes, and exchange ideas with the related institute leaders of DIT.
