Tang Yayang, the Secretary of the Party Committee Interpreted ”My University, My Home” for 2016 Freshmen

At the beginning of the autumn, the charming HNUC ushered in more than 5,000 freshmen; on this new journey, the fiery youth will condense energy from here. Cherishing care and concern about the freshmen and carrying about expectation with the smooth growth of freshmen in HNUC, Tang Yayang, the secretary of the Party Committee of HNUC gave a hierarchical guidance report about entrance education of "My University, My Home" to 2016 freshmen.
The secretary Tang recalled our university's 67-year history and the uniting, striving and arduous entrepreneurship development history about HNUC, and he also summarized achievements in the talent cultivation, scientific research, social service and cultural inheritance & innovation of our university, called for all teachers and students to make joint efforts to realize "three improvements" development strategy targets, to build our university into the talents cultivation cradle, spirit fostering base and cultural transmission center. Afterwards, he utilized "morality, natural science, study, understand and distance" to expound "what is university" and other related problems, in addition, he emphasized that the university was aimed at cultivating the fully developed talents, instead of tools which can master a professional skill. Finally, he put forward suggestions and expectations for freshmen's life in the university according to the different conditions between postgraduate and students who came from the international education cooperation project and freshmen who came from second-tier and third-tier undergraduate education in the three reports, which were presided over and commented by students.
On the afternoon of September 12, the first guidance report, which was aimed at 2016 postgraduates, was started in the Multi-function Lecture Hall of Lingnan Campus. The secretary Tang pointed out that the fundamental difference between postgraduate education and undergraduate education was that the postgraduate education shall pay more attention to the issue orientation, in other words, "knowledge" was "learn to ask questions"; Then, he put forward the following three-word pithy formula to encourage postgraduates to work with stamina and diligence, keep steadfast perseverance as well as make exploration and innovation, namely, "set up ambition, work out temperament, engage in scholarship, exploit new environment and begin with a single step", beyond that, he utilized "ask, innovation, law, constant, openness and virtue" to guide postgraduates to mould the perfect personality during the rigorous scholarship process. When the secretary Tang made the speech for junior college students and undergraduates of International Education College on the evening of September 13, he focused on introducing our university's position, significance, development achievements in the Sino-foreign cooperation in school running for the sake of encourage the freshmen: Hold High Aspirations and Make Attentive Planning; Hold Self-improvement and Self-discipline, and Study Hard; Make Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Dare to Chase Dream; Hold Self-acceptance and Realize Growth in the Sunshine; Perfect Personality and Make Independent Thinking.
On the evening of September 20, the secretary Tang gave a guidance report for 2,700 second-tier and third-tier undergraduate freshmen in the gymnasium. The conference was filled with patriotism, university affection, motivational and encouragement atmosphere. Before starting the report, a 3-year-old girl led all participants to sing Ode To the Motherland for the sake of expressing their patriotism; Long Qingquan, the Olympic champion made a mysterious appearance to share his unremitting struggle story with all students, and our university's student who came from School of Design Art gave his designed work, which included Long Qingquan's cartoon image as a present.
After that, the secretary Tang not only put forward his suggestions and expectations about undergraduate freshmen activities, but also laid emphasis on expounding our university's school motto connotation: "Sincerity & Credibility" is the requirements about human conduct, because a man can't survive without credit, meanwhile, "Pragmatism & Innovation" referred to affairs handling requirements, namely, the pragmatism and innovation were indispensable for people. And he focused on expressing his expectations about building the harmonious "Home Culture" in HNUC. Two freshmen who celebrated their birthday were so lucky to get the hand-painted campus postcard, which was signed by the secretary Tang. Meanwhile, all students were deeply touched by their appearances, namely, Zhou Shilian, who was called as "heart-warming security uncle" by medias and worked in the Second Teaching Building, Xu Chunhong, who worked on the night shift for five consecutive years to guarantee the water and electricity supply of our university, Fu Jinyu, the cleaner who took care of students and worked in the New Nanya Building, and Wang Ping, a superintendent who took students to hospital for several times. Due to the humor and copious quotation, large information, as well as full of philosophy, wisdom and positive energy in the report, the secretary Tang won warm applause from participating teachers and students from time to time.
In these three entrance education guidance reports, the secretary Tang Yayang utilized story, aphorism and typical characters to expound the university essence and profound philosophy about students growing and becoming excellent to answer many doubts and bewilderments of freshmen, activate freshmen to make an in-depth thinking about their development target and life pursuit.
