President Chen Xiaohong Chaired a Problem-solving Meeting with School of Computer Science and Information Technology, School of Mathematics and Statistics

On the morning of May 11th, President Chen Xiaohong chaired a meeting in Conference Room 401 to investigate major issues and difficulties in School of Computer Science and Information Technology, School of Mathematics and Statistics and provide solutions to them in the next step of development. School leaders including Peng Jinqing, Li Dingjun, Yang Hong, persons in charge of Party and Government Administration Office, Personnel Division, Teaching Affairs Division, Logistics Department attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Party Secretary Shao Yuqian of School of Computer Science and Information Technology and dean of School of Mathematics and Statistics Xie Xiaoliang reported on the basic situations, shortcomings, problems to be solved with the school’s support, and plans for the next step development. Relevant department heads responded to problems involved.
School leaders Peng Jinqing, Li Dingjun, Yang Hong provided general guidelines respectively from aspects of talent introduction, hardware investment, logistic support and construction of degree authorizing unit.
President Chen Xiaohong said at the meeting, as representative schools of engineering and science, School of Computer Science and Information Technology, School of Mathematics and Statistics should make more contributions to realizing the school’s “Three Promotions” goal by focusing on their specialty and making use of the advantages of their disciplines
Chen stressed that teachers and students should have the principle “supports come from services and developments come from contributions” deeply rooted, strengthen the sense of crisis, improve abilities and find potentials at the point of constructing “Double First-class” universities and applying for major disciplines as well as applying for new master and doctor degree authorizing units, and special attention should be paid to challenges and chances brought by new technologies, new formats, new modes like Internet plus, mobile Internet, big data, Networking, cloud computing, cloud services, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, deep learning in order to achieve breakthroughs in team construction, scientific research, and disciplines construction. Chen Xiaohong required relevant departments to carefully sort, positive respond, and solve the problems raised by the two schools.
The school will take over common problems caused by lack of educational resources, and will effectively address them in about two years as related work progresses. (Report / photo by Cao Jinwen)
