Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Guo Chongqing Lectured in Lushan Forum

Mr. Guo Chongqing is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor of Tongji Universitiy. Prof. Guo gave a lecture whose subject was “Internet Plus” in F201 of Lezhi Building on the night of April 26th. School leaders Chen Xiaohong, Xia Jichun, Peng Jinqing, Xeng Fuqiu, Li Dingjun, with over 200 faculties and students, attended the lecture presided by President Chen Xiaohong.

Before the lecture,  in her welcoming address, the president, on behalf of the school, expressed welcome and gratitude to academician Guo for his giving a lecture  and introduced his working experience and academic achievements. She said, academician Guo is a well-known master in Chinese management circle and the chief expert of strategic consulting of China’s manufacturing who has proposed many directional suggestions for the development of China’s manufacturing. Therefore, prof. Guo’s coming here to lecture at the invitation of our school was a rare opportunity for all faculties and students to learn. She hoped teachers and students who attended this lecture to integrate their learning and working practice with the high-quality lecture to broaden their horizon, upgrade the landscape of themselves, enhance the exchange of mind with others and inspire entrepreneurial enthusiasm.

Academician Guo Chongqing is an expert in Machinery Manufacture and Equipment, Facilities Layout and Design, and Industry Development Strategy. He once acted as director of Management Sciences Division of National Natural Science Fund and deputy director of Engineering Management Division of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has long been engaged in the design and consultation of engineering project and the study of cultural industry strategy. He achieved overall corporate reform, restructure and transformation during his service as general designer responsible for Shanghai Machine Tool Project of the World Bank and for Shenyang Industry Transformation Project of the World Bank through reform of corporate system, restructure of production process and production modernization. He was conferred the honorable title “National Engineering Design Master” in 1989.

Focusing on issues of“What Information Revolution Brings to Us”, “ Definition, Category and Connotation of Internet Plus”, “Which Fields Will ‘Internet Plus’ Bring Dividends to”, “Difficulties and Focuses  ‘Internet Plus’ Will Encounter in Economy and Society, and others, academician Guo gave an in-depth analysis of the influence Internet brought to manufacturing. He said that China is in the historical intersection of a new round of scientific and technological revolution, industrial revolution and China’s economic transformation which means opportunities if China catches up with current times, but challenges if otherwise. “Internet Plus” has become an extremely hot word in China. It fired people’s enthusiasm. Thought to be the fourth model of science research after laboratory research, theoretical analysis, Computer modeling and simulation, Big Data will displace Reductionism and the traditional Science of Complexity. The ability to process data is a signal for a country’s competitiveness.

Mr. Guo Chongqing addressed that “Internet Plus” is the result of the mutual promotion between technology, economy, society, the product of marketization, instead of being a result of human’s design. He thought it a destructive innovation, a process of reshaping, refactoring and recreating an industry, and an industrial revolution which must be followed by decline and disappearance of some industries, loss of existing jobs and emerging of new jobs. Breaking the closed industrial pattern is a necessity of open Internet economy; mass innovation must be matched by platform open innovation; hardware-software-service integration is the trend of the development of manufacturing; “Internet plus” intelligent countryside can help increasingly declining and marginalized Chinese rural areas out of poverty; only reform can adapt Chinese education to requirements of  supply-side human capital promotion; the disintermediation of Internet will help improve Chinese economy with high working capital; behavior-detecting technology will purify Chinese commercial environment.

From most prominent academic view and latest news in the industry, Prof. Guo vividly explained the profound in simple terms in his professional informative lecture, giving further understanding of“Internet Plus” to those teachers and students on the spot who gave him warm applause.

In the end, President Chen Xiaohong concluded briefly that this lecture not merely presented a brand-new horizon and pattern, but let many us appreciate the charm and elegant demeanor of the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and provided new ideas and inspiration for us to cope with the challenges in future education and to adapt the change of commercial environment.( report/photo by Hu Huimei)
