On December 3rd, the 2015 annual meeting of China Higher Financial & Economic Education Branch of China Higher Education Association--the sixth session of Higher Financial & Economic Education Forum was held by Hunan University of Commerce in Changsha. Party Secretary, presidents and experts from University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, Hunan University of Commerce and other 50 universities gathered together to discuss, in new normal of economic development, how higher financial and economic education should implement innovative impetus strategies and achieve development with characteristics.
Chen Xiaochun, deputy secretary-general of Hunan Provincial government, addressed in the meeting. He pointed out that this forum is the grand gathering of high standard and high level in China’s higher financial and economic education circles. It will not only help all higher institutions of finance and economy seek their own development prospects, but also stimulate the overall vitality of the universities of financial and economy and shape a sound atmosphere for the overall development. This forum chose to be convened in Hunan, which would be of great significance for the development of higher financial and economic education in Hunan. He also wished the forum a complete success, and hoped that our school can actively draw advanced experience from other brother universities by this precious opportunity so as to pursue further development and provide better service for Hunan.
Chen Feiyue, party member of Hunan Provincial Ministry of Education and committee member of Provincial Committee of Education, addressed in the opening ceremony. He made an introduction of the current development situation of Hunan higher education and extended his wish that Hunan University of Commerce, as the vanguard of financial and economic universities in Hunan, should fully play its key role in talent cultivation, scientific researches, social service and culture advocating. He also expressed, our school should take this opportunity to further update education philosophy, form education features and improve school-running level, so as to make greater contribution to the overall education improvement and social & economic development of Hunan Province.
Shi Jianjun, chairman of the branch and president of University of International Business and Economics, introduced the basic conditions, work of the past few years, and the main agenda and contents of this annual meeting during the opening ceremony. He hoped that all participant institutions made in-depth discussion and fully expressed their opinions, so as to further communication, show achievements and gain development via this platform.
Wang Hanqing, Party secretary of Hunan University of Commerce, made a welcoming speech on the opening ceremony and briefed the school’s achievements in reform and development, the strategic objective of “three upgrades” and the prospect of “three prospering.” He extended his hope that through this forum, the school could deepen its understanding of, enhance friendship with and broaden cooperation scope with brother universities, with the aim of achieving a faster and better development of China’s higher financial and economic education.
President Chen Xiaohong made a keynote speech during the meeting and gave a detailed elaboration of the transformational and innovative development of China’s higher financial & economic combining the new normal of current economic development and the demands of comprehensive reform in higher education. Chen pointed out that, local universities of finance and economy have to, in achieving leap development during the “13th five-year plan”, be highly demand-oriented, do a good job in top design and deepen comprehensive reform. With “one main line, two breakthroughs, three transformations and four upgrades”, we need to seek status with self-contribution, motivate teams with task deployment, gain results from projects and pursue development with characteristics.
Zhang Guocai, vice chairman and secretary general of the branch, presided over the forum. All participant universities discussed issues related to their own realities with the theme of “implementing innovation driven strategies and promoting the feature development of higher finance and economy education”, and a total of seventeen experts made their theme speech in the meeting.
It was the major discussion issue to formulate school plans for the “13th five-year plan” with the spirits of the fifth plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of CPC. Shi Jianyun contended when making plans for the “13th five-year plan”, every higher institutions of finance and economy need to adopt strategy of driving development with innovation and orienting themselves to serving the society, so as to make a group of financial and economic universities to be the world class institutions by 2020.
It constitutes an inevitable choice for financial and economic universities in adopting themselves along with the development of the era to make an overall planning of mass entrepreneurship and innovation in universities. Fan Liming, president of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, expressed that financial and economic universities should develop with their own characteristics and make “service plus” as the main education orientation in entrepreneurship and innovation; Ma Xiao, vice president of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, contended that university should cultivate talented people for society, so it is a must to consider how to improve college students’ adaptability, resilience and creativity, and innovation education represents the basic topic for the global higher education in the information age; Wang Hua, president of Guangdong University of Finance & Economics, made a theme speech themed with “Internet age and educational reform in university of finance and economy”; Chen Jingying, vice president of Shanghai Finance University, believed that entrepreneurship and innovation education must focus on the cultivation of innovation and personality of creativity, and provide platform for students to form teams and integrate themselves to entrepreneurship and innovation activities; ZouBingguo, president assistant of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, introduced his school’s practices and explorations in fostering innovative talents.
