HUTB Holds Grand Celebration Conference for 39th Teachers' Day

Diligently cultivating the teaching profession, contributing to the prosperity of the nation. On the morning of September 8, the university held a grand celebration for the 39th Teacher's Day in the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall of the Xiangjiang Building. Chief leaders including Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Huang Xin, Deputy Director of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB; Wang Minggao, Director of HUTB Academic Committee, along with other university leaders, party committee members, and senior professors attended the event. Also present were the recipients of the "30 Years of Teaching Honor" and "My Favorite Teacher" awards for 2023, as well as all division-level cadres, some section-level cadres, heads of teaching and research offices, and representatives of faculty and students. The conference was presided over by President Huang Xin.

The event began with the stirring national anthem. Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB and a member of CPC HUTB Committee, read out the HUTB’s Decision Regarding the Recognition of the "30 Years of Teaching Honor" Awards for the Year 2023 and the HUTB’s Decision Regarding the Recognition of the "My Favorite Teacher" Awards for the Year 2023.

Teachers Peng Wenzhong and Li Xuelei, representing the recipients of the "30 Years of Teaching Honor" and "My Favorite Teacher" awards, respectively, delivered heartfelt speeches expressing their passion for the field of education. They spoke of their pride and honor in receiving these accolades and emphasized their commitment to the mission of disseminating knowledge, ideas, and truths. They pledged to integrate teaching, work, and personal values into a unified purpose, dedicating themselves to educating and nurturing students, pursuing research and innovation, actively contributing to society, and striving to make a greater impact on the high-quality development of the university.

Amidst enthusiastic applause, the Chief Leaders, members of CPC HUTB Committee, and senior professors presented medals to the "30 Years of Teaching Honor" and "My Favorite Teacher" award recipients, extending heartfelt holiday greetings to them. Student representatives offered flowers to the honored individuals, expressing their gratitude and best wishes to their teachers.

At the meeting, Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech. She extended her holiday greetings and sincere respect on behalf of the CPC HUTB Committee to all faculty and staff members. She warmly congratulated the 12 "30 Years of Teaching Honor" recipients and the 22 "My Favorite Teacher" awardees recognized by the university.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong expressed four expectations and requirements for further strengthening the university's teacher workforce: First, create a stronger atmosphere of respecting and valuing teachers. This includes enhancing teachers' sense of honor and increasing the sense of fulfillment and happiness among all faculty and staff. The goal is to fully motivate teachers to be dedicated to teaching, enjoy teaching, engage in active research, and focus on educating students from within. Second, further strengthen the construction of professional ethics and teacher's conduct. This includes elevating the political awareness, strengthening systematic thinking, and ensuring that the responsibilities for constructing professional ethics and teacher's conduct are implemented at all levels. It also involves establishing outstanding examples of professional ethics and teacher's conduct and fully utilizing the exemplary role of outstanding senior teachers in the growth of young teachers. Organize teachers to benchmark against the Ten Guidelines for Professional Conduct of College Teachers in the New Era issued by the Ministry of Education, and ensure the bottom line of professional ethics and teacher's conduct is upheld. Third, further enhance the competence and abilities in the integration of interdisciplinary subjects. In terms of talent development, it involves transitioning from traditional thinking patterns to digital intelligence thinking, from disciplinary specialization to interdisciplinary approaches, from a focus on theoretical research to a focus on innovative practices, and from traditional evaluation criteria to comprehensive evaluation standards, thus promoting a deep fusion of science, technology, and humanities and arts. In the context of scientific research, it involves strengthening interdisciplinary integration, reinforcing organized research activities, and enhancing team collaboration in tackling research challenges. Fourth, further invigorate a spirited and upward mindset. This entails maintaining the determination and confidence to "jump up and pick the peaches" and upholding the spirit of "innovation and entrepreneurship." We should embrace the mission and responsibilities in the new historical journey of HUTB and carry them forward.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong encouraged all faculty and staff to firmly establish the ambition and aspirations of "diligently cultivating the teaching profession, contributing to the prosperity of the nation" and to consider it their duty to nurture a new generation of individuals capable of shouldering the great responsibility of national rejuvenation. She emphasized the importance of strengthening the cultivation of professional ethics in an all-encompassing manner, consciously accelerating the transformation of cross-disciplinary integration, and striving to become "Four Good Teachers" and "Four Guides." Their efforts will contribute to the high-quality development of the university.
