HUTB Holds Opening Ceremony of Xiangjiang Academy • Hong Class

On the afternoon of October 30, the opening ceremony of Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class was held in the Yingcai Lecture Hall. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Guoquan, a member of CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, and Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB, attended the event.

Professor Tan Yuejin from the National University of Defense Technology, Professor Long Jun from Central South University, Professor Liu Xinwang from the National University of Defense Technology, President Liu Wenqing from Hunan Kylinsec Technology Co., Ltd., Chairman Gao Di from Changtai Robot Co., Ltd. of Hunan Central South Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., Chairman Xiao Xiangjiang from Hunan Chaoneng Robot Technology Co., Ltd., Chief Expert Cai Dawei from the Strategic Department of Hunan Valin Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., Vice President Tan Yun from Changsha Xingshen Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., as well as representatives of external mentors from companies and internal mentors and leaders from relevant functional departments of HUTB, leaders of various secondary schools, and more than 100 teachers and students from the first session of Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class attended the event. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Zhang Ling.

Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a speech during the ceremony. She pointed out that the construction of Xiangjiang Academy is a further upgrade of HUTB's "digital intelligence +" talent training reform, a renewed exploration of comprehensively improving the quality of self-cultivated talents, and an active response to the reconstruction of the education system. It is committed to cultivating more outstanding innovative talents who can adapt to high-quality development and achieve high-level self-reliance and self-improvement, injecting a continuous stream of "talent power" into the vigorous development of the digital economy. She expressed the hope that students will bravely challenge the frontier and become explorers of innovation, enhance their digital intelligence literacy to become the main force leading the future, cultivate their humanistic accomplishments to become advocates with both internal and external cultivation, and strive for excellence to become leaders in scaling new heights. They should strive to become the seekers of the initial aspiration in the new era, down-to-earth practitioners, and pioneers forging ahead, setting sail and braving the waves in the tide of the digital economy.

Professor Tan Yuejin, the representative of the mentors, warmly congratulated on the official opening of Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class. He expressed that Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class focuses on cultivating outstanding innovative talents in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced computing. It is an innovative approach to talent cultivation in universities. All the mentors will spare no effort in providing careful guidance to ensure the success of Hong Class and contribute greater efforts to cultivate more outstanding talents.



Amidst enthusiastic applause, Academician Chen Xiaohong presented appointment certificates to the representative of the mentors and awarded a class plaque to the representative of Hong Class students.
Liu Daobo, Director of the Academic Affairs Division, introduced the construction of Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class from four aspects: construction background, construction goals, selection process, and training characteristics. Jiang Lin spoke as the representative of Xiangjiang Academy teachers. Wang Yu, a graduate student, and Liu Wenqian, an undergraduate student, spoke as student representatives.

The attending chief leaders, academic mentors, and all Hong Class students took a commemorative group photo on the Jinjie staircase in the library.
Xiangjiang Academy is headed by Professor Chen Xiaohong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, and Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, serving as the honorary dean. The academy focuses on the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talent, taking "achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology" as its mission. It leverages the educational tradition and research advantages of HUTB and Xiangjiang Laboratory in disciplines such as artificial intelligence to train top-notch talents in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced computing.
The "Hong Class" implements a flexible academic system of 3-6 years at the undergraduate level, with small-class teaching and high-level internal and external mentors provided for students. It emphasizes the cultivation of students' interdisciplinary and teamwork abilities to adapt to the diversity and complexity of modern scientific research. It follows a brand-new training program that emphasizes students' independent learning and research abilities, focusing on developing students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. After undergoing voluntary application, preliminary selection, written tests, interviews, physical fitness tests, and other rigorous assessments, a total of 84 outstanding graduate and undergraduate students emerged as the first cohort of students in the "Xiangjiang Academy · Hong Class".
