"May 1st Celebration: Embracing Basketball" - HUTB 2023 Faculty Basketball Tournament Kicks Off

On the evening of April 26, the "Building Dreams at HUTB: Embarking on a New Journey" sports series began with the Faculty Basketball Tournament at the sports arena in the South Campus. Thirteen teams consisting of 156 athletes from various secondary units came together to compete in friendly matches, showcasing their basketball skills and engaging in healthy competition.
The basketball tournament is organized by the Committee for Sports and Health Promotion, sponsored by the Labour Union, and hosted by the School of Sports and Health. The tournament is divided into three stages: the first stage consists of a round-robin group stage where all teams are divided into two groups and play against each other. The top four teams from each group advance to the next stage. The second stage is a crossover elimination round where the first and second-place teams from one group compete against the first and second-place teams from the other group to determine the rankings from 1st to 4th place. Similarly, the third and fourth-place teams from each group compete to determine the rankings from 5th to 8th place. In the third stage, the joint team competes against the School of Sports and Health team for the special prize.
On the opening night of the basketball tournament, as the referees blew the whistle, the players actively contested for rebounds, passed the ball, and made steals. They engaged in intense battles, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere at the venue. Last year, the joint team led by the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies caught everyone's attention with their debut match. This year, they continued to shine, defeating the team from the School of Finance with a significant score of 62-31. On the same evening, the Invincible Youth team triumphed over the Accumulate Strength team with a score of 46-18, while the Unbeatable team secured a victory over the Economic and Trade team with a score of 74-34. Additionally, the Lingnan Tigers won their match against the Heart Whole team with a score of 29-25.
The thirteen participating teams are as follows: Fearless Forward Team: Joint team of Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, School of Digital Media and Humanities, and School of Microelectronics and Physics; Accumulate Strength Team: Joint team of School of Continuing Education, Logistics Management Service Center, and the Branch Labour Union of North Campus Management Committee: Lingnan Tigers Team: Joint team of Youth League Committee, Library, and School of Art & Design; Joint Team from the School of Finance; Joint Team of Administrative Department I, Administrative Department II and Administrative Department V; School of Economics & Trade; Unbeatable Team: Joint team of the Branch Labour Union of the School of Business Administration, the Branch Labour Union of the Intelligent Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing, and the Branch Labour Union of the Administrative Department IV; Realistic and Pragmatic Basketball Team: Joint team of the Administrative Department VI, School of Computer Science, and School of Accounting; Invincible Youth Team: Joint team of School of Science and School of Resources and Environment; Heart Whole Team: Joint team of School of Public Administration and Human Geography and School of International Business; and School of Sports and Health Team.
This edition of the faculty basketball tournament lasted for 16 days and aimed to implement the national strategy of promoting fitness for all. It vigorously advocated the concept of "exercising for one hour every day, maintaining a healthy work life for fifty years, and leading a happy life for a lifetime".
