Xiangjiang Laboratory Holds Opening Ceremony for Major Projects of 2022

On the afternoon of April 9, the opening ceremony for the major projects of 2022 was held at the Academic Conference Center of the Xiangjiang Laboratory in the Economic Management Complex of HUTB. The following individuals attended the opening ceremony: Lu Xicheng, Lu Chunfang, Nie Jianguo, Ouyang Xiaoping, Zheng Jianlong, Fan Guobin, Liu He, Chen Xiaohong, Wang Yaonan, and Yang Hong, who are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Liu Zhongmin, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering; Li Zhijian, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province; Yang Wangping, Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Hunan Province; Zeng Wanhui, Chairman of Changsha Jingjia Microelectronics Co., Ltd.; Xie Ziqing, Vice President of Hunan Normal University; Wang Minggao, Director of the Academic Committee of HUTB; Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB; and Yi Mianyang, Vice President of HUTB. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Liu Guoquan.

During the meeting, Li Zhijian, Secretary of the Leading CPC Group and Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, delivered a speech. On behalf of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, Li Zhijian extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to all the academicians, experts, and guests attending the meeting. He emphasized that this meeting serves both as an opening ceremony and a project advancement meeting. He expressed his hope that the attending experts would provide careful guidance and valuable suggestions. He also urged the project teams to conduct thorough research, fully incorporate opinions and suggestions, further improve research proposals, innovate technological pathways, and strive to overcome a series of "bottleneck" technical challenges. He emphasized that the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province will conscientiously implement the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province. They will further enhance their service levels and accelerate the construction and operation of the Xiangjiang Laboratory. This will provide strong support for Hunan to build a technologically innovative highland with core competitiveness and make new and greater contributions to achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.

The opening ceremony was divided into two stages, involving 13 projects. It was presided over by Academician Lu Xicheng, Director of the Academic Committee of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Academician Nie Jianguo, Director of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University. The presenters reported on the relevant aspects of the projects, including research background and key issues, project objectives and assessment indicators, research methods and project coordination, research content and technological pathways, as well as research plans and safeguard measures.

The attending experts conducted on-site inquiries regarding each project, and the project teams responded to the questions raised by the experts. In-depth exchanges and discussions took place between the experts and the project teams. The experts unanimously agreed that each project has significant scientific research value and practical significance. They acknowledged that the research vision is broad, the content is comprehensive and systematic, and there is a clear internal logic between the sub-topics. The projects were deemed to have been reasonably justified. Additionally, the experts provided constructive suggestions regarding the research approach, research framework, practical application, and key points to consider for the successful implementation of the projects. They expressed their confidence in the project teams' ability to successfully complete the research tasks and achieve the expected objectives.

In response to the expert opinions, the members of each project team attentively listened and took notes. They expressed their commitment to diligently study and digest the experts' guidance. They emphasized that they would further improve the research approach and framework based on the received feedback, ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of the research work.

Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, delivered a concluding speech. She expressed that the Xiangjiang Laboratory has strategically positioned itself in key fields and technologies, with a total of 50 research projects being undertaken. The 13 major projects presented during the opening ceremony are crucial initiatives carefully planned by the Xiangjiang Laboratory. They are focused on overcoming "bottleneck" challenges and key core technologies. The laboratory is fully committed to promoting research on these projects. The successful completion of these projects not only directly impacts the long-term development of the Xiangjiang Laboratory but also contributes to achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. She emphasized the importance for each project to deeply understand the requirements and needs, and to focus on problem-solving. The projects should strive to achieve breakthroughs in key core technology challenges and frontier technological research, thereby promoting the transformation and application of more high-level scientific and technological innovations in Hunan. She expressed her hope that everyone would work together to promote the scientific, solid, and high-quality development of each project. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building the national strategic scientific and technological capabilities, and making contributions to the construction of a scientifically and technologically strong country.
