On the afternoon of May 17, HUTB held a thematic research symposium for student representatives to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The symposium took place in the Conference Room 206 in the Technology Building of HUTB.
The symposium was attended by Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, as well as Vice Presidents Zhang Ling, Yang Liangqi, and Gan Dejian. The heads of relevant departments, deputy secretaries of CPC committees from various secondary schools, counselors, and student representatives also participated in the symposium. The symposium was chaired by Vice President Gan Dejian.
During the symposium, 20 undergraduate and postgraduate representatives from various schools shared their experiences, discussed their personal growth, and put forward suggestions. The students expressed that the excellent teaching conditions, abundant learning resources, positive learning atmosphere, advanced educational concepts, and high-level research platforms provided by the university have laid a solid foundation and provided a broad stage for the growth and development of young students. Everyone will keep in mind the youthful oath of "Please rest assured, the country is strong because of us" and practice the spirit of the university motto "Sincerity & Credibility, Pragmatism & Innovation". We will strive forward, compete courageously, and demonstrate the responsibility and dedication of contemporary youth through practical actions. The students also discussed their experiences and shared their suggestions on topics such as balanced campus development, international exchange and cooperation, employment services, and practical teaching.
The chief leaders attentively listened to the speeches of the student representatives and engaged in friendly exchanges with the students.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong delivered a concluding speech at the meeting, expressing admiration for the enthusiastic spirit and strong sense of pride and devotion displayed by the students towards the university. She also expressed gratitude for the sincere suggestions provided by the students regarding the high-quality development of the university. She stated that in recent years, our university has made remarkable progress, both in terms of comprehensive educational strength and the quality of talent cultivation. The university adheres to the educational philosophy of "everything for the students, for the sake of all students, and for all aspects of the students" and strives to provide students with a favorable learning and living environment as well as a broad stage for development. However, due to insufficient and uneven distribution of educational resources, there are still some areas that need improvement and enhancement. The university will deeply implement the theme education on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It will identify gaps and deficiencies, focus on implementation, and promote rectification.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong also expressed her earnest hope for the young university students at our university during her speech.
Firstly, we should embrace lofty ideals. Those who are capable can serve society, and those who possess a spirit of dedication can propel social development. We should have lofty aspirations for our country, prioritize the overall interests of our province, and focus on the major affairs of our university. We should integrate the realization of our personal value into the needs of national development, always remembering General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest instructions. Let our youth blossom and shine in the vibrant practice of building a socialist modern country in all respects.
Secondly, we should strive to master solid skills and capabilities. Currently, China's digital economy is experiencing strong momentum, and the development of artificial intelligence is progressing rapidly, deeply integrating with various application scenarios. In line with the "cross-integration" educational concept, our university has advocated and implemented a series of micro-programs, new majors, and digital training camps to meet the demands of this trend. Everyone should closely follow the forefront of technological development, think critically about the new challenges and opportunities brought by new technologies and new situations, keep pace with the university's initiatives, enhance digital learning and application abilities, overcome skill anxiety, and cultivate core competitiveness.
Thirdly, we should enhance comprehensive quality. As society advances, there is an increasing need for well-rounded and versatile talents with comprehensive development. The university is making great efforts to build programs such as "Innovative HUTB", "Digital and Intelligent HUTB", "Sports-oriented HUTB", "Artistic HUTB" and "Cultural HUTB". The aim is to guide students to pursue a well-rounded education, emphasizing both internal and external cultivation, the integration of science and art, and the development of their moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and practical abilities. The university hopes that students will proactively practice and strive for comprehensive development in all aspects of their lives.
