Building dreams at HUTB, advancing on a new journey. On the evenings of May 17 and 18, the final match and exhibition game of the 2023 faculty basketball competition at HUTB were held in the stadium. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, along with Xiao Xiaoqin, Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, and Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB, watched the matches together with faculty and students. They also presented awards to the champion, runner-up, and third-place teams.
During the 16-day competition, a total of 13 teams consisting of 156 athletes, organized by various secondary units, came together for friendly matches and competitive games on the court. They went through group stage matches and cross-elimination rounds. Eventually, the Moving Forward Team formed by the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, School of Digital Media and Humanities, and School of Microelectronics and Physics, as well as the Pragmatic and Diligent Team formed by the Administrative Department 6, School of Computer Science, and School of Accounting, successfully advanced to the finals.
In the final match, both teams demonstrated unity, cooperation, and a combination of offense and defense. They actively contested for possession, passed the ball, and intercepted passes, engaging in intense competition. The atmosphere on the court was filled with passion and excitement. The players swiftly turned, sprinted, and jumped, showcasing their agility and delivering a continuous stream of spectacular moves. During the halftime show, the cheerleading squad and gymnastics team performed with precision and vibrant energy. Their synchronized and lively routines added a touch of beauty to the intense competition. The audience was captivated by the intense competition, fully engaged and filled with enthusiasm. The sporadic cheers and shouts from the crowd continuously heightened the atmosphere of the stadium.
After a full four quarters of intense competition, the Moving Forward Team emerged victorious with a score of 51-39 against the Pragmatic and Diligent Team, claiming the championship title of this competition.
During the award ceremony, Secretary Chen Xiaohong presented the championship trophy to the Moving Forward Team, Deputy Secretary Xiao Xiaoqin awarded the runner-up trophy to the "Pragmatic and Diligent Team, and Vice President Liu Guoquan presented the third-place trophy to the Unbeatable Team. The fourth to eighth places were taken by the following teams respectively: Administrative Department United Team, Lingnan Wing Tigers Team, Invincible Youth Team, Heart Whole Team, and Economic and Trade Team.
On the evening of May 18, there was also a basketball exhibition match between the HUTB All-Star Team and the School of Sports and Health Team. It served as an additional event in this competition. Gathering all the basketball talents from the university, the event showcased an exciting and thrilling basketball exhibition, filled with passion and skill. It provided the students and faculty with a spectacular display of high-level basketball performance.
As the whistle blew, both teams' players entered a state of intense competition. They exhibited seamless passing in their team coordination, relentlessly fought for every opportunity, and displayed impressive shooting accuracy during alternating attacks. Dribbling, passing, jumping, and making layups, their movements flowed effortlessly as they executed their plays. The game proceeded with intense and thrilling moments. With long-range three-pointers and impressive slam dunks, they ignited the passion of the audience, eliciting waves of cheers and applause.
During halftime, the cheerleading performance was full of energy and vitality. The lion and dragon dance performances were captivating, featuring agile leaps, twists, and turns. The movements were seamless and fluid, executed with great precision. Successive martial arts performances took place, one after another.
Finally, the chief leaders took a group photo with the players and students present, capturing the wonderful moments of the competition for lasting memories. With that, the current faculty basketball competition concluded successfully.
The purpose of this faculty basketball competition was to implement the national strategy of promoting fitness for all, vigorously advocating the concept of "exercising for one hour every day, maintaining a healthy career for fifty years, and living a happy life for a lifetime". It aimed to continuously enhance the physical fitness and teamwork spirit of the university's faculty members, thereby mobilizing significant strength towards the goal of building a "Sports-oriented HUTB" and achieving the strategic objectives of "Three Advances and Three Highs".
